I Ran

I ran in t-shirt sleeves
Through a sunny park
At The American Legion bar
They talked of winter
Falling after dark
Falling after dark

When there’s sweat on the brow
And the light’s warm and gold
It’s so hard to prepare
For the cold
For the cold

The sun had set
Northern wind blowing through
You were sitting at a booth
That’s where I saw you
That’s where I saw you

You were poking at your food
Playing with your phone
Wearing track shorts, showing flesh
So far from home
So far from home

When there’s sweat on the brow
And the light’s warm and gold
It’s so hard to prepare
For the cold
For the cold

Lord, don’t leave me
O Lord, don’t leave me
Out in the cold
Out in the cold
